What is a music engraver or copyist?
Although the terms can sometimes be interchangable, a music engraver usually prepares music for publication. The work is detailed and usually longer in duration. A music copyist usually prepares music for a singular event like a recording session or concert. In the past these jobs were performed by hand or by plate engraving. These days, these jobs are usually done on a computer.Wikipedia defines a music engraver as:
"Music engraving is the art of drawing music notation at high quality for the purpose of mechanical reproduction. The term music copying is almost equivalent—though music engraving implies a higher degree of skill and quality, usually for publication. "
